Overview

Ngā Whanaketanga Rumaki Māori (Ngā Whanaketanga) have been developed by Māori-medium leaders in te reo matatini (literacy) and pāngarau (numeracy).

They describe the kōrero (oral language), pānui (reading), tuhituhi (writing) and pāngarau (mathematics) skills and knowledge students need to learn in all learning areas across Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, at different points of their year 1 to 8 schooling.

Ngā Whanaketanga Rumaki Māori are part of a wider work programme designed to strengthen Māori-medium education. This includes the implementation of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa; plain language reporting to parents, families and whānau; further developing literacy and numeracy assessment tools for Māori-medium and professional development for teachers, principals and boards of trustees.
